From writing for The New York Times and Financial Times UK to leading anti-corruption initiatives in Nigeria, Ismail’s journey bridges storytelling, policy, and social impact.

Ismail Auwal is a distinguished journalist and governance reform advocate whose work has appeared in The New York Times, Financial Times UK, African Newspage, and Sahelian Times.
He served as Managing Editor at Sahelian Times and as a communications consultant for global organisations, including the International Institute for Criminal Investigations (IICI) on the Murad Code Project.
Recognised for his leadership in transparency and reform, Ismail co-led Nigeria’s Open Government Partnership (OGP) Anti-Corruption Thematic Group, shaping policies that birthed the Kano State Anti-Corruption Strategy and established school-based anti-corruption clubs across Northern Nigeria.
